Sustainability
I try to be mindful of my impact on the environment in my daily life and my aim is to do the same with this shop. Running an online shop and putting non-essential products in circulation is obviously not sustainable in itself, so I try to do make the best choices, to the best of my ability.
✦ CANDLE MAKING
My candles and wax melts are made with 100% Ecosoya wax. It is clean burning, fully vegan friendly and plant-based, made in Europe from sustainable resources, and does not contain GMO.
The fragrance oils I use are high quality, vegan friendly, cruelty-free fragrance oils, free from phthalates, palm oil and parabens. Made in France, most of them are PEG-free and CMR-free - some fragrances are not certified but they have very low amounts. Please check the description of each product.
Fragrances oils contain natural elements (essential oils, extracts, resins, isolates) but are not fully natural. Compounds that aren’t sourced direct from nature are either chemically identical to naturally found compounds, artificially created, or modified slightly.
I used to use essential oils in my candles, but I switched to fragrance oils created especially for candles for several reasons. Not only do essential oils tend to lose their benefits and become toxic when heated, but you also need a lot of essential oils to get a good scent throw, and a lot of plant material is required to produce small amounts of oil, which can be very unsustainable. Finally, I want my candles to remain as accessible as possible, and fragrance oils are more affordable than essential oils.
I use Eco wicks made from pure cotton and paper threads, incorporated into a sustainer (metal tab). They are lead-free and zinc-free and coated with soy wax.
In 2025, I decided to switch from glass jars to metal tins for several reasons. Firstly, because they are more affordable than glass jars, which will make a huge difference to my budget and also make my candles more affordable for you. The fact that they are lightweight also means they will cost less to ship (and it will also be easier on me and my back - carrying heavy glass boxes was starting to take its toll). Secondly, both the production process and the recycling process for aluminium tins have a lower environmental impact compared to that of glass jars, and they also have a much lower footprint when it comes to shipping because of their weight. Tins are also obviously less prone to breakage in transit (from my supplier to me, and from me to you) and metal has a higher heat resistance than glass, so tins are less likely to crack or shatter when exposed to high temperatures.
✦ SOURCING & SUPPLIERS
I always spend a lot of time looking for the right supplier for every ingredient and supply that I need to run my business. From containers to fragrances oils, labels or shipping boxes, I only order from EU/UK based companies who themselves work with as many EU/UK based manufacturers as possible. I always check their environmental and sustainability values, and always choose the ones who ship plastic-free (although there are exceptions that I can’t control sometimes). This is where it all begins, so I am particularly picky.
✦ PACKAGING
Your orders are shipped plastic-free with my own supplies or with reused materials. Everything is wrapped and protected in recyclable packaging. I sometimes reuse materials that I get from my own orders, and they can sometimes include plastic bubble wrap - it will always be more sustainable to reuse old packaging than to buy new one, and I encourage you to reuse it as well if the condition allows it.
Candles are wrapped in white newspaper offcuts, which are 100% recycled and recyclable.
Wax melts are wrapped in biodegradable glassine bags.
All orders are packed in cardboard boxes and sealed with paper tape.
Packaging filler consists of kraft paper or newspaper offcuts.
For international orders, I am required to attach an invoice to the outside of packages. Unfortunately, this requires a clear plastic bag to be taped to the box.
