Candle Care

Candle & Wax Melt Care and Safety

✦ CANDLE CARE

Burning & Trimming⁣
For best results, burn your candle until the melt pool reaches the edge of the jar. This will create candle memory, which will prevent tunnelling. Trim your wick to about 5mm (1/4 inch) before each burn to ensure the correct performance of your candle and minimise soot. Metal tins quickly become very hot: do not touch them while the candle is lit and place them on a heat-resistant surface or on a coaster.

How to Fix Tunnelling
I spend a lot of time testing wicks, wax and fragrances in containers until I get an even burn and I do everything I can to prevent any kind of burning problems. However tunneling can still happen, especially if you're not able to burn your candle until the pool reaches the edge or if you forget to trim the wick. One method that works really well to fix a tunnel is the aluminium foil method - like shown in this picture. This will melt the wax on the sides and ensure an even burn and that no wax is wasted.

Candle & Tealight Safety⁣
Never leave a burning candle unattended.⁣
Never burn a candle for longer than 4 hours.⁣
Burn candles our of the reach of children and pets.⁣
Don’t burn candle on or near anything that can catch fire.⁣
Always burn candle on a stable and heat-resistant surface.
Do not place candles in a draught.⁣
Do not place candles near a source of heat.⁣
Trim wick to 5mm (¼ inch) before lighting.⁣
Do not move a burning candle.⁣
Never use liquid to extinguish a flame.⁣
Do not allow the candle to burn out completely.

✦ WAX MELT CARE

How to use⁣⁣
Soy wax melts can be used in any traditional oil or wax melt burner (with tealight) or electric burner. If using a traditional burner, light a small, 4 hour unscented tealight in your burner and place 1 wax melt piece in the bowl above.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Once you can no longer smell your fragrance or if you wish to burn a new one, light your burner and wait until the edges of the wax block are melted. Once the edges (and the bottom) of the wax are melted, turn off your burner (or extinguish your candle). You can now release the wax block and discard it. Wipe any residue with a tissue or kitchen paper. Be careful, your burner might be hot!⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Wax Melt Safety⁣⁣
Soy wax melts should not be used in electric diffusers that release steam.⁣⁣
In traditional burners, always use 4 hour unscented tealights (not long-lasting tealights) to avoid your burner getting too hot.⁣⁣
Do not overfill the wax melt burner bowl.⁣⁣
Never move your soy wax burner until the wax has cooled completely.⁣⁣
Ensure that the surface under your soy wax melter is heatproof.⁣⁣
Never allow the melted wax pool to completely evaporate.⁣⁣
Store your wax melt bar in a dry and cool place, out of any sunlight.⁣⁣
If using a traditional burner with tealight, please follow all the Candle & Tealight Safety tips listed above.

✦ DISCLAIMER

⁣Each candle is handmade and handpoured by me. This means that despite my efforts, they may have some imperfections such as uneven tops, slightly off-centered labels or wicks, etc. Drops in temperature in storage or transit can also affect candles and create wet spots, air pockets, cracking, frosting, sweating and minor discoloration of the wax, especially during winter and summer. This happens to all candle makers and none of these issues will impact the quality and performance of your candle. ♡
